Milo,

re: AMD CPU's in demand.

Yup they sure are at a $70 average ASP for 1Ghz chips.

Hell perhaps they can ship 10M at a $50 ASP in Q4.

That should really help the stock.

regards,

Kash

No, no, you don't pay to advertise when you're selling record shipments of parts *at reasonable prices*.

If you ignore the price issue, you are doing something foolish. Price has a direct effect on demand. If AMD gave away their processors for free, they'd have all the demand in the universe!

But that's totally irrelevant. What is relevant is that they have to gouge themselves in terms of pricing in order to artificially keep demand to decent levels. This is *not* a good demand situation. It means that people don't WANT their products unless they're nearly free.

What's the ASP of these products? The Duron is selling for less then the k6 did when everyone was complaining how low the k6 was selling for. That should be pretty telling right there. If they sold all athlons for $2 a piece, I bet they could steal a huge percent of the market share and record record sales too, but I don't think that would make me any happier as an investor.
