Great points, good to see you posting again.

Looks like MS may be seriously hindering (or at least stunting) the next upgrade cycle, providing great reasons NOT to change. Between that and the last-mile bb bottleneck we are seeing in middle America, who knows when the next flurry will happen. No killer app, no compelling need to fill.

OTOH, at some point the dam will break. When mom 'n' pop finally decide it's time, volumes will move. Regarding the next MS upgrade, witness the comment:

"This may not be that big of a deal to some people. My mother-in-law, for example, probably won't be affected much. People like her will wait and buy a new computer with Windows XP already installed and won't have to worry about it again."

WRT the last mile, I keep expecting to see multiple dsl and cable vendors, offering real products and real competition, at my doorstep any day now <vbg>. And then maybe somebody will sell me a home videoconferencing package that is cheap and really works. When that happens, look out above.
