I think that the revenue numbers were very bad. AMD can not continue to have sales under $1B and execute the very ambitious plans for new CPUs and process generations without going into a string of quarterly losses. In the next 3-4 quarters AMD will have to bite the bullet and make all the necessary expenditures. This could cause losses to average $100M to $200M per quarter.

Intel knows it and few clever people on Wall Street know it. Today's price action reflects this line of reasoning. Also don't forget the rest of the market. It has a long way down to go. I am all cash and not ready to buy yet.

TG,

Anybody else around here think the news isn't as bad as the market made it out to be -- besides Joe & me?

I found the increased CPU shipments to be big positive. AMD may still be gaining market share, even at the time Intel is throwing everything at its disposal to stop losing market share.

I think Q2 and Q3 will represent the bottom of the cycle, and if AMD can still manage to make money in this environment, things can only get better from here.

Besides, this was not a new investment for me. I just re-acquired the share I sold in $27.5 to $29 range.

I think the things to look for will be Intel results (processor portion) and the breakdown of the revenue shrinkage between flash and processor in AMD results.

Joe

TG,

He did, they say availability is expected middle of this month (about 1 1/2 weeks from now).

Eventually, they will be right, because if the middle of the month comes and the product is unavailable, they will just keep moving their ETA forward until the product eventually ships.

Just as an exercise, go to pricewatch and look for a product that is unavailable, and check regularly. A good example is Abit KG7 motherboard. The scamsters (lead by PC Progress) listed the availability as July 3rd, first week of July etc. last time I checked. Now that we are past July 3rd, and the motherboard has not hit the market yet, the dates just changed to July 12th, or mid July.

It is a good exercise to check these KG7 vendors for another reason: write down their names, and and never order anything from them. The chances are that they will take your order while they don't have the product in stock (or a clue when they will receive it) and you will be left hanging with an open order, without any guarantee that the scam vendors will be the first to receive the product, or that you will be the first to receive it.
