ECRI inflation gauge slips in June

NEW YORK, July 6 (Reuters) - The Economic Cycle Research Institute (ECRI) said on Friday its monthly U.S. future inflation index (USFIG) fell to 104.2 in June from a downwardly revised reading of 105.3 in May. The future inflation gauge has now fallen for 14 straight months. The smoothed annualized growth rate edged up to -16.1 percent in June from -16.5 percent in May. ``With a global recession looming, underlying inflationary pressure remain in clear retreat, affirming that inflation will continue to decline in the months ahead,'' said ECRI in a statement.

FIBER Leading Inflation Index falls in June

NEW YORK, July 6 (Reuters) - The Foundation for International Business and Economic Research (FIBER) said on Friday its Leading Inflation Index declined to 95.3 in June from a revised 96.5 in May. The smoothed growth rate fell to -11.0 percent in June from -10.2 percent the prior month, the report said. ``The June figure is a continuation of the downward trend in FIBER's Leading Inflation Index, which continues to suggest that U.S. inflation will remain low,'' sai The FIBER index is a composite of nine individual indices from various institutions. The smoothed growth rate is a ratio of the current month's index to its average over the prior 12 months, expressed as a compound annual rate.
