ok, just so you understand, i had a problem with the way he ran his numbers. i am by no means an authority on all the past deflations so if someone wants to show me information that supports his timeframes for inflation/deflation by all means the topic does interest me.

the most interesting thing is the results since the early seventies when gold was completely dropped as a backing for currencies and allowed to trade freely as a commodity. it has done well in an inflationary time period and done poorly in a disinflationary or deflationary time period since 1980, which is directly contrary to his gold performs better in a deflationary environment than an inflationary one.

i am not an expert on all those time periods in the 1800's but it was a different world back then with many different factors. i would put more weight on recent history, which has shown gold to do well in the inflationary 70's and poorly in the disinflationary and then deflationary late 90's.
