Good point. They restricted the power of the government to oppress the people. Why is so hard for some of them to understand? Some of them are STOOOPID. They simply cannot reason beyond their immediate desires and see the ultimate effects of getting their way. They think they are smarter than those antique old fogies who gathered in Philadelphia 200+ years ago. They cannot see the wisdom of what they did. I'm reading "Founding Brothers" now. It states that the United States has survived longer now than any other democratic republic in history. Quite a distinction, I think. Too bad these guys can't understand WHY.
