well it depends on what you call inflation. they might have collapsing prices for certain things like real estate stocks, etc, but they printed money at a furious pace to try to prop up the economy as well. so you can't say that the japanese government hasn't tried the money printing scheme in the past. the cheap credit over there just gets taken and sent over here to our markets instead of stabilizing things over there. you can call that inflation or deflation or whatever you want, but there is easy credit all around the world and currencies are being devalued from sea to shining sea.
