Conservatives have always focused on creating a scapegoat, e.g., liberal press, elitists, Gray Davis, Sen Jeffords, out of thin air and pounding the message out repeatedly. Newt had a practice of distributing a weekly memo to GOP members that identified which phrases, words or persons to repeat. This recess, the GOP members were sent home with little laminated cue cards with the glorious image of an oil rig.
