Andreas, Probably some AMD employees who want this sort of information leaked to get the right spin on the delay. A "strategic" delay to further enhance clock-speed is a much better story than a delay because of failure to get decent binsplits.

Sounds like a concocted story to me; the delay could well be because of bin splits or other problems. Also, how do you trust anything out of the mouths of AMD after Thursday? What does make it kind of believable is the "why bring out a compromised product at such a slow time, i.e,. take more time to optimize it" type of thinking. Then again, one more slip and they may miss Xmas.

This is kind of like how Sun strategically delayed the UltraSparc III until it became uncompetitive, isn't it?

(it was released at clock speeds much higher than originally stated -- come to think of it, this is the same story as the Merced or the 21364 or the Willamette)
