Don Walser-- get this- this morning I recorded my
favorite West Coast Live (NatPublicRadio)show from November 13 1999--
wcl.org
find RealAudio Archives on left and then 1999 and its most of the way down the extended page---to Novemeber 13 99

this is who is in it:

Live show from The Freight and Salvage Coffeehouse.

Actor Gene Hackman and underwater archaeologist Daniel Lenihan, authors of "Wake Of The Perdido Star".
Isabel Allende, author of "Daughter Of Fortune".
Don Walser, "The Pavarotti of the Plains" with good ol' down-home Texas music.
Singer-songwriter Lucy Kaplansky, whose latest recording is "Ten Year Night".
Irving Kaplansky, as the house pianist.

I aint kidding -Don was in great form and was joking around and sang a duet with Lucy (who I really like) and Lucy sang great accompanied by her dad-- Irving --who is a famous mathematician acting as the house pianist and Gene Hackman and Daniel Lenihan reading from their collaboration and telling stories and Isabel explaining her research about gold rush days of San Francisco---
I have heard this 3 times-- I dont get tired of it so when I got Total Recorder 3.2
highcriteria.com
one of the things was to record this particular show-- the cool thing with Total Recorder is that during or after recording the entire show I can 'mark' what I want to save and cut it out so I now will have Kaplansky songs as well as Walser-- and theres more shows....
the broadcast is recieved at 16,000Hz at 16bit mono--
(44,000 16bit stereo setting is near quality CD)(with TR I can punch it up a bit and in stereo but still its listenable)
Also this program can record those Hi-Fi broadcasts and the sound portions of .mov but a little fooling around is necessary (use soundboard with .mov)--
if someone does use this please print out the instructions first because this program in its original setup replaces DirectSound of Windows which other programs use--
in settings you have to change it from Total recorder driver to Audio playback.....

anyways thats cool-- I like Don, didnt want to make a commercial...

oh yeah-- with Total Recorder if RealAudio breaks TR will wait and record withOUT the gaps -- very cool well worth 12 bucks.

.mov--- I like the sound of steam trains and had an old windows 95 program that doesnt load well in WindowsME but am ablee to play each .mov file--so I recorded the sound from those I like to add it to a Thunder and Lightning Nature CD thing that I also like and with Roxio5 you can combine (crossfade) these somewhat seamlessly -- still not adept yet with it all but fun.
