Do I lose this status if I say that this is about time? <g> >> Republic of Korea: The 1st CDMA International Roaming Symposium cdg.org It has been recognized that international roaming service is one of the key attributes of global mobile communications and is one of the key characteristic of IMT-2000 that will provide seamless international roaming. Recently operators using the CDMA mobile systems (cdmaOne) have started providing international roaming services in several regions. Due to different frequency bands and signaling protocols used in different countries, operators have experienced difficulty in providing seamless international roaming services for their customers. There is a need for all relevant parties who are associated with CDMA technology in the world to discuss ways to further the development of international roaming as well as enhance existing roaming services. In order to facilitate the discussion, the 1st CDMA International Roaming Symposium is being organized by CDMA operators, manufacturers and the administrations of Republic of Korea. The idea of the 1st CDMA International Roaming Symposium was discussed during the April meeting of 3GPP2 and is supported by 3GPP2 Steering Committee and Operational Parties as well as the CDG. The objectives of CDMA International Roaming Symposium is to bring together administrations, mobile carriers, and experts from industry as well as relevant standards bodies associated with global CDMA roaming. The Symposium will facilitate discussion on state of the art of the current CDMA roaming technology, new technology developments, commercial operating experiences, and associated regulatory as well as business issues. The symposium will also explore technology options that will enable cross technology roaming. The first Symposium will be held during October 29-30, 2001 in Seoul, Korea in conjunction with 3GPP2 SC/OP meeting being held in China during Nov 1-2. Mr. Hong Son, Director General of Information and Communication Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Information and Communications will chair the Organizing Committee, consisting of senior members of CDMA operators, manufacturers and various administrations.
