I grew up in Anna Illinois myself. Extreme southern Illinois has been Democrat since the early 1800's. Most of the settlers of that part of the state came from NC, VA, and KY. George Wallace was popular there. I don't know how things stand now politically. I haven't lived there since I took a job in the oil industry 25+ years ago and don't talk politics much with people. I'd imagine Republicans have made some inroads, at least on the Presidential level, in the last couple of decades just as they have throughout the South.

My grandparents were died in the wool Democrat. My folks are Democrat too, I guess you'd say. Though my Dad just doesn't vote when the Dem. Presidential candidate is too objectionable to him - Kennedy, McGovern, Clinton - at least the affair with the intern news came out. He liked Humphrey and Carter.

I'm an independent.
