Hi Ken; My first batch of tomatoes quit over 3 weeks ago, I'm getting a few from the 2nd batch but
they wont last much longer, ( I put them out about a month apart ) and I have some newer ones
3 ft tall & blooming that look like they will make..( I put them out in my back garden where they
get a lot of shade ) The back garden did good with the early corn as early on before the pecan
trees put on leaves it gets full sun, then after the tress fill out it gets about a half a day of shade,
My front garden is full sun and the Okra is just about the only thing that really likes that in this
heat, squash seems to do OK , I have more of that coming up, and a second batch of beans
taht might make.
Watermelons ; I should get a good bit of them if we don't get another flood like 2 weeks ago,
I lost about half to the flood but I still have out a lot and the ones that didn't get the end
rot are looking ok. Watermelons take up a lot of space and want to run all over the place
so I put out small patches about 20ft apart in sunny locations but away from the other gardens,
I just turn up a 6ft x 3ft spot in the grass then add some compost and put in 4 plants to
the space then let them run out over the grass, it cuts down on the mowing some :-)
Dam fire ants are bad this year I'm on my second 10lb bag of ant killer already.
