If you guys are doing it, you are clearly the exception. Maybe my info is out of date -- like from the mid 1990s.

All I know is that stocks under $5 are not eligible for margin and therefore my account does not let me short them.

As for the OTCBB .... ummm you guys who are shorting them in the US are probably gonna get a lot of PMs from many of the OTCBB players who stumble on these posts.

But the one fact I think we can converge on is the margin requirements for shorting stocks under $5 are substantial. A Canadian friend of mine who has been checking into it recently says 200% ... and no shorting stocks under .50.

Sooo if you want to short 10000 shares of CRAP.OB trading at .50, you have to put up $15,000. So you even if the stock price drops 50%, you've only made 16% on the money you've tied up.
