Consider, while our winters are not cold on the average, we still get to the 20's for about 3 weeks a year in the Houston area. There was an article in today's Houston Chronicle about some people trying to grow olives in South Texas. They are afraid that they will freeze during cold winters, does that happen in Southern California? In addition, we get hotter with higher humidity than much of California. I've spent time in LA during the summer, and during the winter. It is much milder there.

You have to remember, the Devil is said to live in Texas because he prefers the weather here...
