AthWiper systems - blame AMD or the Chip Set suppliers - have an EARNED REPUTATION - for poor system reliability, stability and excessive power consumption.

Athlon CPUs do have high power consumption but so do P4s. In regards to poor system reliability and stability I see little evidence that this is the case. The majority of stability problems are Windows related or related to some bug in a program or a driver. AMD had some problems with earlier Athlon systems and some video cards but now that those problems are no longer an issue AMD systems haven't had any more stability problems then Intel systems they may even have less. Of course a lot of the stability is not the result of what the CPU or even the chipset but rather the people who put the system together. Dell, deserved or not, has a very good reputation in this area and only uses Intel chips. I imagine many corporate buyers would be more comfortable with a Dell Athlon system then a generic Pentium or Celeron system, but Dell is about as likely to start using Athlon chips in the near future as I am to be hit by lighting, or AMD's stock price is to exceed Niceguy's wildest dreams in the next few days.
