Quite a story.
They were very fortunate.

I have seen 30 foot swells out there. Looking out of the boat in the salon all you see is a wall of water. I remember crawling to the bar and opening a bottle of Tanguery and drinking straight from the bottle. Certainly gives you a different perspective on life.
