They used to sing it on the Hee Haw show. There was this part of the show, where a group of them would be sitting around in a barnyard setting, they would all sing that song, and then in between they would zoom in on one of the players, and he/she would deliver a short 1 or 2 liner joke of some story of woe....

OT-OT Hi Tony,

If memory serves me (and I am old enough to know that it may not ... VBG) "Gloom, Despair" was written by Roy Clark (who was a very accomplished musician, despite his "hayseed" personna on Hee Haw). Does this jibe with your recollection??
