I think there is one critical difference between now and a cacheless celeron. Though the cacheless p4 sucks compared to the competition, there aren't important real world apps that it matters on. Most games are limited by the video card not the processor, and most business stuff runs so fast no one really feels like it's moving slow. On common programs a p4 with sdram probably looks about the same as a p4 with rambus ram.

My wife has a duron 700 at home with a geforce mx video card, while I have a athlon 1.33 ghz with a geforce 2 ultra video card. You can't tell the difference between our two systems on 98% of the stuff we do.
