Dave, Re Dan, “AMD's cash position increased was not because of operations (i.e. selling uPs) but because of adding more debt to their capital structure.” and
“Incorrect, AMD's cash adn ST investments (which is a cash equivalent) increased by 302.4M”

AMD sold off $143121M of Short Term Investments, which increased Cash and Cash Equivalents at March 31, 2000. Short Term investments are shown in the AMD Balance Sheet as a Current Asset separately from Cash and Cash Equivalents but are included in Total Cash, Cash Equivalents and Short Term Investments. When Dan shows his$400 M (“their cash increased by well over $400 million during the period”) he does not take into account the addition of the long term borrowings and the addition to Cash and Cash Equivalents from the sale of Short Term Investments, neither of which come from operations.

Dan has a hard time dealing with the facts. Just remember that you can take a *** to the water but you can’t make him drink.
