Ref < is that AMD's breakeven ASP is much lower than Intel's breakeven. >

I really doubt that.

The reason is that a majority of AMDs profits during the past year came from Flash Division , and not from the much publicized Microprocessor Division. Most of the calculations of AMD's Microprocessor breakeven point are based upon the assumption that the profits from Microprocessors dominate AMD's revenue and profits.

OT, GV, Did you see ML's upgrade on PCLN? Wow 66% implied upside, yet it didn't get the coveted Buy rating which requires only 20% upside. The last time ML put a near-term Accumulate rating on PCLN was when it was in the $120s.

Re: "One very good point that Dan3 continues to make but gets lost in the shuffle is that AMD's breakeven ASP is much lower than Intel's breakeven."

That's because AMD often operates at that level.

One very good point that Dan3 continues to make but gets lost in the shuffle is that AMD's breakeven ASP is much lower than Intel's breakeven.

While I am aware of the host of reasons why this is the case, nonetheless it is probably both true and valid.

While AMD's Break Even ASP may be lower than intel's, Dan's "Numbers" (Cough) are neither "True" nor "Valid". At least not according to Jerry Sanders "Business Model":

Eye2Eye with AMD's Jerry Sanders, Part III
Our ASP last quarter was somewhere in the $80 (£49) range. That's really not good enough. We've driven up our volume. Our original business model was to have a $100 (£62) ASP.
