I don't think its simplistic at all. I think its very likely we test the spring lows (9200/1650) and if those don't hold then we head towards the Oct 98 lows of (7600/1350). At some point all these "value" stocks in the dow are going to be exposed to the same pressure selling that the nas has seen. It wont be the same in % terms but it will still hurt. All too many people assume all is well when the dow is around 10k. They neglect to see the nuclear winter the nyse and nas are going through and yet the dow is 30 stocks. While I don't think (at the moment) this will be a long process I do think the lows could be shocking. The economy just isn't that bad and lower fuel prices will help a lot! If fuel stays low, the fed eases a little more and people don't get too negative I see no reason why we can't be on the rebound next year.
