I think that you are giving Greenspan too much credit

As far as middle America is concerned, Greenspan is the most powerful man in their lives

Most of middle America has no idea who he is, and if they had to guess they would say that Greenspan was a middle linebacker for the Green Bay Packers.

They might know who he was if he started showing up on the Ophra show.

It already is.

The reality is that Greenspan has very little power. He is perpetuating the impression that he has power in hopes that he can resurrect consumer confidence, which is the only place that his interest rate cuts will have much effect.
