Actually, there are plenty of Swiss watches around. Oris, Rolex, and other "prestige" brands are thriving, with both quartz and mechanical designs. There are also more horses living in the US today than there were in 1900.

But you're right. The electronics industry isn't going to abandon silicon just because it can no longer meet the Moore's Law rate of advance. It will abandon Moore's Law first.

Alternative technologies--biochips, quantum devices, etc.--are interesting and fun to think about, but nowhere close to commercial viability.
