Concerning Intel's negative free cash flow; free cash flow is defined as what's left over for the hypothetical investor after a company spends money to maintain operations.

Basically FCF = OCF - Capex

One of the reasons why FCF is negative is because OCF << Capex. (take a look at the Statement of Cash Flows and undering "investing" look at Purchases of plant property and equipment, that is what i'm interpretting to be capex). However, one point, i am including all of the plant, property and equipment as Capex. Under FCF, not all would be because a portion of that expense is for Intel's expansion....
