carranza,

<< as Eric has pointed out, there's a possible air pocket after 1XRTT, Disagree with Eric and agree with Dr. J. I think that 1X is going to be around adding to Q's coffers for a long, long time. No air pocket for a long time. Sorry, Eric, you're good, but not as good as the good Dr. -vbg- >>

No apologies necessary. Not only am I not as good, I also own a few less shares of Qualcomm than he does. <g>

I also think 1xRTT will be around a long time, as it evolves to 307 kbps, then 614 kbps (using RC-4 -are you listening mightylakers) then on to 1xEV-DV, and I'm sure I'll be using it for a long time, longer than I've used IS-95A.

Unfortunately I believe that GPRS will also be around for a long time - too bloody long, and that WCDMA or WCDMA with HSDPA will evolve and be deployed slower than I would like to see, not for technical reasons so much as economic conditions, and the business case for high speed data.

As for the possible air pocket, it is with 1xEV-DO. Perhaps it will be stupendously successful, widely deployed, and widely adopted. I am not sure of that, however.
