Sorry, I should have been more precise. July 1998 was close to the bottom in market conditions. The bottom in book-to-bill happened in August, and the bottom in equipment bookings happened in September. See chart at thinfilmmfg.com

Financial results would have lagged these numbers by a few months, but the "insiders" knew what was happening. That may be why it only took until October to put in the stock bottom.
