Software (defined broadly as applications, whether software or firmware) gives people a reason to buy all those chips. A P4 without software is just a really expensive paperweight. Software doesn't drive chip technology advances, it exploits them. Without Moore's Law to make his bloatware usable, Bill Gates would be just another college dropout. I've been on enough farms to know that fertilizer can be pretty nasty stuff. The choice of words was deliberate. Katherine
