Tenchusatsu:

"But when Intel drops
prices to increase or maintain market share, it's a blatant attempt to start a price war and eliminate competition."

Not really...Seems more like an ongoing attempt to find a "floor price" at which the consumer will purchase the P4...Frightening to think that P4 ASP's may still have a long way to drop if this endeavour has any hope of success! (Speaking of crossovers, P4/Athy ASP's might get really interesting over the next 6 monhs)

Ten
you are missing one thing that is the "price war" is a business tool and while we might not like it is intel's right to conduct it when it is legal. Intel can not gain substantial market share since intel already got 75+% of the market. While if amd would go from 20% to 30% that would be an increase by 50% but for intel it would mean a loss of less than 14%.
