Yeah, the FDA is running around with no head! They are in total gridlock and won't make a decision for fear of pissing off who ever eventually becomes the new Director. Safer to do nothing...... Plus, the more they say no, ask questions, and create more workload, the more justification that they need more staff and budget for their fiefdoms. Hopefully Bush will nominate someone who can get through the Senate approval process fast! It's not like the FDA has ever had to answer for why the treatable sick and dying aren't getting treatment as expeditiously as possible. This reminds me of what they did to medical devices in the 90's when they virtually brought the approval process to a halt.

At least they are getting enough media exposure that they will end up getting Congressional scrutiny. Now THAT is a long slow process, so don't look for any quick fix from that path. New Director fast would be the best thing Congress could do.

Abolishing the FDA would be kinda scary. Serious reform would be nice though.
