Hi jp,

Well, looks like I saved the best for last. The Jackson Browne/Tom Petty concert was just fantastic.

In the last nine days I have seen the following groups..........

Tom Petty
Aerosmith
Styx
Bad Company
Billy Squire
Jackson Browne
Fuel

The above list is in order by MHO of their performance in concert. FWIW, I would rank this list based my overall appreciation of their collective works as follows.................

Styx
Tom Petty
Aerosmith
Bad Co
Jackson Browne
Billy Squire
Fuel

FWIW, Tom Petty just rocked the night away. The crowd basically stood from start to finish. He played a good selection of tunes from the early days thru his last release. Almost every tune was among his greatest hits. I believe they played three non Petty tunes - blues based rock. Petty played the longest set of all the groups - about 2 hrs & 10 minutes (Aerosmith & Styx were just shy of 2 hrs).

The Heartbreakers were in fine form behind Tom. We had pretty decent seats & it seemed like Tom & the Heartbreakers were genuinely enjoying themselves. To me, the downside of Petty's biggest hits is the certain sameness to the lead guitar riffs. The upside is that these songs have a timeless appeal to them & even though there is that sameness to some of the riff's, they still stirred the soul & were played & sung con mucho gusto.

As with the Aerosmith concert, there was a thunderstorm that drenched the folks who had lawn tickets as well as those in the last 15 or so rows of seats (not under the pavilion roof - my group stayed dry this time :-o). The storm was pretty strong & even many folks under the roof got soaked with wind blown rain. That did not deter this crowd (nor did it with the excellent Aerosmith concert which my group got drenched in). Lightening was crashing quite near the pavilion, yet very few folks ran for cover. Instead, they danced, jammed their fists into the air, played air guitar & sang their hearts out.

Oh, and there was a constant, pungent sweet smelling aroma from this big blue cloud during the whole concert. I'm not sure if there was a connection, but the aroma got even more pungent when Petty played 'You don't know how it Feels', and also during the encore when he played Bob Dylan's, 'Everybody Must get Stoned'. Needless to say, the group I was with all had a serious case of the munchies after the concert. I wonder why?

It's been a great nine days :-)
