Wrong, and wrong again.

The chimp in chief called the N.Y. Times reporter a "major league asshole" at a campaign rally in front of a crowd of supporters. The fact that Bush-Cheney were too stupid to realize the mike was live does not negate the "public" aspect of this comment. The remark was replayed on national television. Although the remark may have been intended to be private, in became public by virtue of its publication on network television and in newspapers all across America.

Overlooked Bush Interview

With all of the focus on Hillary Clinton's interview with Talk magazine, nobody seems to have noticed the article about George W. Bush in the same first issue. Headlined "Devil May Care" and written by Tucker Carlson, the article captures some interesting Bush moments.

On executed killer Karla Fay Tucker:

"I watched [Larry King's] interview with [Tucker], though. He asked her real difficult questions, like 'What would you say to Governor Bush?'

"'What was her answer?' [Carlson] wondered.

"'Please,' Bush whimpers, his lips pursed in mock desperation, "don't kill me.'"

Carlson notes Bush seemed to notice a shocked look on his face and shifted his tone to a "somber" one. The author also reports: "As it turns out, the Larry King-Karla Fay Tucker exchange Bush recounted never took place, at least not on television."

GWB Mocks Tucker's plea for clemency to conservative newspaper writer Tucker Carlson, who reports it.  Bush, Carlson wrote, ridiculed the inmate by affecting a whimpering woman: "Please, don't kill me." (Washington Post, 7/6/00)

... When Tucker Carlson quoted Bush in Talk magazine using the f-word and insensitively mimicking death-row inmate Karla Fay Tucker, his spokeswoman challenged the account. But Texas journalists weren't surprised by the story. They had heard Bush occasionally use such language in the past, but always in situations that were clearly off the record.
