The problem was there before Davis. It's called deregulation. The Energy Cartel caught everyone off-guard with their strategic blitzkrieg move to abuse deregulation and raise prices and gouge the world to help Bush get elected. It worked. For awhile. I'm betting it will now be their downfall.

I predict Davis will be easily re-elected unless Riordan runs. Riordan is a moderate Republican who acts like a Democrat half the time. He can beat almost anyone in California. Because he doesn't kowtow to the Republican party. By the way, know who the Riordan of the democratic party in Californis is? The one who acts Republican? It's Condit. He's the most conservative Democrat around. So Republicans shouldn't cheer too loudly. He could always be counted on to vote their way for big agriculture and othere GOP special interests. Remember Condit was one of the first to challenge Clinton to come clean about Monica. Again, throwing stones from glass houses. Ironic huh?
