but I believe Carter should have received the Nobel Prize

Members of the Peace Prize committee at the UN agreed. They would have gladly awarded Carter the Nobel Peace Prize [post-award interviews with the members]. The stupid problem was that someone has to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize to be awarded it; no one nominated Carter.

You don't know about the October Surprise? A deal was made, my friend, to wait until after the election to release the hostages. All about oil connections. Even when we're enemies with Iran and Iraq there are some in our government (and connected with certain campaigns like Reagan and Bush) which have access through the oil business and CIA contacts and can make deals. The Khashoggi's of the world for instance (close Bush family crony). Remember the Ollie North deal? And that's just one which was investigated. How many more never came to light?
Don't forget Bush was also head of the CIA. These people can do plenty of things at our expense which we never find out about. They can also do good things sometimes. Not saying it's all evil. But Carter was definitely damaged over there. The real story has only come out in tidbits. It may have put Reagan in the White House. And remember, way back then Reagan wasn't that popular. If not for the oil crisis and hostage delay/failed rescue mission Carter might very well have won. Same type players as last year's October Surprise as OPEC cut production, Bush/Cheney Cartel domestic suppliers gouged and Bush used it to his advantage. Took the election by less than 1000 votes. clearly it made the difference. What makes it even more clear is that the Saudis owed big favors to Bush/Cheney/Powell for saving their butts in the Gulf War.
It was clearly pay-back time.
