The rest of the world is far ahead of us in cleaner fuels, except for those countries with their own supply. Our problem is we use many times more than we have, and always will. Until we get off oil as our primary fuel (will always use some) we just make OPEC rich. The oil companies are everywhere though and they don't want to change (despite their PR ads about doing so) therefore without strong leadership which doesn't kiss their butts and take their soft money we'll never get anywhere. Same with any industry. Getting rid of soft money will free America to do the right thing no matter what that is. And get rid of out-dated subsidies too. All entrenched special interests like leeches on our political system. Never has it been more apparent than when the Oil Industry actually put two of their head guys (actually a lot more than two) in the White House. Now we see how that specialized greed and abuse manifests itself, an attack on the worldwide environment and the looting of our public and private monies through gouging without any real supply shortages. And who can stop them? Maybe only the Senate now that Jeffords has switched. And of course the people at the voting booths with the help of the press to keep us enlightened but just repeat the daily spin, cover-ups and smoke screens which only deflect what's really happening.
