No they need to continue it as to compete in those markets to make cost shifting more difficult for their competitors. Besides, HT interconnect make more sense than buses anyway.

Most large SMP servers use switches for CPU interconnect and multiple HT links simply distributes the switches into each CPU chip. Alpha, Power4, and others are going down that path as well. Instead of clustering 1-2 way boxes, they cluster 1-2 way CPU/Memory nodes and distribute the IO among all those nodes. Thus, AMD is taking the next step along that path.
