New York Stock Exchange Issues Monthly Short Interest Report
NEW YORK, June 21, 2001. The New York Stock Exchange today reported short interest as of the close of business on the settlement date of June 15, 2001 reflecting transactions through June 12, 2001.
Based on information received from members and member organizations, short interest increased to a record 5,577,217,366 shares on June15, 2001 from 5,512,609,817 shares on May 15, 2001.
The short interest on June 15, 2001 was equal to 1.7 percent of the total shares on the Exchange.
The short interest in warrants as of June 15, 2001 amounted to 9,988 warrants, compared with 42,309 warrants on May 15, 2001.
As of June 15, 2001 3,508 stocks and 8 warrants were available for trading on the Exchange. Of these, 2,792 issues had either a short position of 5,000 shares or a change of shares since the last monthly report.
A list of these issues, showing their current short positions and average daily volume between the trade dates, covered by this report, is attached.
A short sale is any sale of a security, which the seller does not own, or any sale, which is completed by the delivery of a borrowed security.
