HDI Commentary

mmmary: Interesting. Thanks for the additional perspective. Yes, the cultural divide within HDI between Sturgis hard-core traditionalists and the newcomer yuppie poseurs is really an interesting phenomenon to observe from the outside. Personally, I like Beemers more than Harleys (once an engineer, always an engineer), but I gotta admit, I like that new bike. Love the looks, too! A truly beautiful bike. Those solid wheels look pretty stiff, though. Not sure how comfortable they would be.

Maybe this new design will allow HDI will pull in non-traditional customers from other brands like BMW did when they introduced their R1200C cruiser in 1998? Prior to that, Beemers were known more for mechanical reliability and distance touring rather than cruisers and style, two traditional Harley strong points. Yet the bike was phenomenally successful. (Inclusion in the Bond film no doubt helped.)

Maybe this new liquid-cooled V-rod bike will have the same effect for HDI? If it had ABS brakes, it would definitely be a crossover hit, and might even poach a little Beemer market share. <gg>
