If we don't set rules governing our own conduct, who will? Would you rather live under flexible rules established through a process of compromise and consensus or rules imposed by a few individuals who claim divine sanction?

One thing must be made perfectly clear: we cannot live under rules set by God. That is true because God hasn't given us any rules. All we have are rules proclaimed by people who claim to represent God, none of whom have the slightest shred of evidence to support that claim.

Which would you rather live under, rules made by people that are accountable to the populace or rules set by self-proclaimed visionaries?
