OT -- JohnM -- Interesting you should mention the "bring surfboard" suggestion. While surfing sounds exciting/enticing in theory, it has negative connotations for me!

Back when I was a young pup and didn't know any better (now I'm an old pup and still don't know any better), I vacationed in Long Beach, bought a real cool surfboard at Gordie's in Huntington Beach, met a gorgeous blonde-haired surfergirl ice-cream heiress from Studio City, fell in love (well, maybe an intense crush) with both the girl and the surfboard, and had a great three weeks of sun and fun.

When it came time for the California Dreamin' trip to end, she asked me if she could borrow my surfboard for awhile. Of course I said "sure!" but was totally "crushed" when she came by my hotel to pick it up . . . with her boyfriend. Funny . . . she had never mentioned she had a boyfriend. So anyway, there I stood in front of the hotel sadly watching as they tooled away in his convertible with my board sticking up from the back seat. It nearly brought tears to my eyes . . . I was totally in need of some of Thotdoc's therapy at that point.

Anyway, I got over it in a couple weeks, but was kinda miffed, so I called her and inquired about when she could ship the board back to me. She nonchalantly said that she and her boyfriend cracked up the board on a reef, that it was in many pieces, and that she was "sooo-o sorry" (but I guess not sorry enough to offer to buy me another one).

Didn't talk to her much after that . . . another hard lesson learned. Of course, there's positives and negatives in everything: At least I didn't marry her . . . I'd weigh at least 100 pounds more by now.

So no more hangin' ten for me, but here's hoping you catch a monster wave on your next investment.

Take care,
ea
