Hi Libbyt,
It has been a long time since I posted on the Internet2. But I have certainly been aware of it for a long time. One of the key things about the internet2 that is touched on, but not expounded on, is that it is better able to handle realtime traffic such as voice and video. One of the affectionate terms that we have used for the internet is that it is a "jitterfest". Jitter is a bad thing for realtime traffic. The ability to assign quality of service (QoS) parameters to traffic allows priorities to be assigned to the traffic and therefore reliable delivered...at least in theory. My experience with QoS is that the negative impact on performance far outweighs any benefit that the QoS provides. So far, the best way to hand QoS guarantees is to throw more bandwidth at it.
