Given your small number of orders so far, 33% failure rate is hardly something to gauge by. If you'd ordered 100 and 33 had that problem, I'd say you're onto something. But overall, CPQ's performance and satisfaction levels have been very good, even with the staff reductions.

Compaq: no lost Singapore deal

FUD from opposition
By Mike Magee, 12/07/01 16:27:51 BST

A MANAGER OF the Compaq Corporation has said that no deals with the Singapore government were lost because its Alpha technology was ceded to IBM.
That follows an article we published last week. (here).

Instead, it appears that Compaq believes that its competitors may be spreading fear uncertainty and doubt, as the following mail makes clear:

"We would be very interested in where you believe this loss or potential loss exists for Compaq. Compaq does not know of any customer or prospective customer that is considering a deal worth $30 million in Alpha procurement/purchase in Singapore at this time, let alone from the "Singapore Government".

"We would question your source(s) for what appears to us as misleading information to our mutual customers. While we would not like to believe IBM or aligned IBM sources would be spreading such misinformation we do question why they would be highlighted as the benefactor of such an unknown opportunity.

"Feedback we have from our major technical & commercial customers throughout Asia Pacific has been extremely positive to the Compaq Intel announcement and our customers see this as strengthing Compaq's product offering.

"Indeed, today in another part of Asia Pacific we delivered in detail the Compaq HPTC Alpha and Itanium directions at a customer forum to 100s of ISVs and Compaq Partners in Seoul, South Korea. Again, the overwhelming feedback was one of support for the current and future Compaq products using both Alpha today and Itanium in the future.

"We look forward to reading a more balanced review from The Inquirer of the Compaq Intel agreement in line with the feedback we are receiving from our customers.

"Regards,"
