Yeah right! Way out in the middle of a great big ocean! I can only paddle about 2-3 miles an hour and the currents here are 6 miles an hour depending on the tides. Dave, all you need is a gps. Then even if you can't see land you still know exactly where you are.

I don't have a GPS yet, although I held stock in Trimble Navigation for about three years and sold it ONE WEEK before Clinton lifted selective availability and the stock price went sky high. (It's only one of the reasons I can't stand Clinton.) My son showed me his GPS on a trip over to Missoula. At Fourth of July Pass he checked the elevation and I remarked that it read only 4 feet higher than the sign said it was. He reminded me that his dashboard was four feet off the ground.

A couple of touri went hiking here last year with their cell phone and a GPS. They got off on a mountain goat trail and had to be rescued off a cliff by some very fine helicopter flying.

I use a Silva Compass myself. I always come out of the woods in sight of my truck.
