Actually, since the elemental ingredients are carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, both kinds of alcohol can be made from the same raw materials, am I right? Hmm, well theoretically, yes. But practically, with our current technology you wouldn't be able to efficiently and economically make all hydrocarbons out of anything that has H C and O in it... I mean.. could you get a big pile of H,C,O,Ca,Na,So,Cl and so on and make a salad? cAPS (musician - not a chemist)
