Let me add to that the ability to aggreagate news from a myriad of sources as another enabling example in the news area. A big effect of the web will be to eliminate middlemen. Why pay an auctioneer when an auction service could be owned by its' users? Why a book wholesaler when one can deal with amazon. Why a new car dealer if Ford will sell direct for less? Why a travel agent when I get the best price direct from United Airlines? These are current examples. The BtoB aspects of killing the middleman (and the salesman as well) must be well beyond those at retail.
