Here's another one for ya from one of my child-free co-workers named Dan: -- So I'm at a local Wendy's today for lunch. I carry my tray of a #2, no mayo, no ketchup, biggie size, Coke to the condiments table. Ketchup for fries, napkins, straw, turn around and trip over a 3yo (give or take, I didn't really ask) rolling his wheeled toy around. Food goes flying everywhere, ketchup lands on a couple of customers, coke hits at least three other people, mild sprain in my hand, kid is screaming bloody murder, everything comes to a screeching halt. Mom runs over yelling at me to leave her kid alone (what did I do to deserve this?). One of the people cleaning coke off his jacket tells the lady "Ma'am, your kid was right behind him playing with his toys on the floor. It's not his fault, it's your fault for not keeping an eye on your kid." She says she's going to call the police because her kid is crying that "the big man hurt me" (well, sorry, but he's not really hurt. I think I did pretty good by not landing completely on top of him with my 180lbs, hence the sprain). By now the manager comes out and takes charge. After listening, she tells the lady to call the cops if she wants but it's pretty apparent from the witnesses that nothing happened here the cops would be interested in. The first guy with the coke on his jacket tells mom she owes him for dry-cleaning, I tell her she owes me lunch, the other patrons murmer similar comments. Mom yells we're all a bunch of insensitive <deleted> to blame her poor innocent child for my clumsiness. With all the noise, and with his mom screaming, the kid is just howling to beat the band. A person in the dining area shouts out, "Lady, howzabout you and your bratty kid just get the <deleted> outta here." She storms out. Had the doors not beein on pneumatic cyliners she would have broken the glass trying to slam it. She's almost literally dragging this howling child by the arm (hmm…. I know some who would call THAT child abuse), jerking him along as he complains he's not through eating, his toy is still sitting on the floor, etc. The manager not only gives me another meal, she gives me a voucher for a free lunch. She then turns to the splattered people and offers to pay everyone's dry-cleaning. That's, what, probably about $60-80 this manager is out because some mom couldn’t keep an eye on her kid. On the one hand it was just one of those things that happens. On the other this manager paid the ransom for us being held hostage by The Poor Little Children. It was an embarrassing situation for all concerned.
