New Mexico Drops Out of Microsoft Suit

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - New Mexico said Thursday it settled its claims against software giant Microsoft Corp. (NasdaqNM:MSFT - news) and had withdrawn from the landmark antitrust case against the company, a spokesman for the state's attorney general said.

New Mexico was one of 19 states remaining in the case led by the U.S. Justice Department (news - web sites).

A U.S. appeals court last month struck down a lower court order that the company be split in two, but left intact a ruling the company had abused its monopoly of the personal computer operating systems market.

On Wednesday, Microsoft said it would let computer makers alter the appearance of its Windows operating system as a consequence of the appeals court decision.
