twfowler:

As best I can ascertain, AMD's ASP's fell by $10 in q2..I'd have to think that INTC's would fall by $20 which translates into about $500 million off the bottom line which in turn wipes out most of the $0.11 of last quarter...Throw in additional weakness in non-processor business and decline in market share...and yes, I do think there is a very real possibility of INTC red in q2...unles they realize more capital gains in q2 than I think are available to them!

>It seems AMD had a small increase in market share and Intel chips prices have gone down a lot (yes so have AMDs) so unless unit growth has been strong this Q or Intel's cost cutting has worked wonders Intel's profits would have to be down.<

What you are overlooking is that Intel has only been slashing the prices of the P4, which hasn't been selling very well. Price cuts on the popular Celeron and PIII have not been nearly as great.
