4:42am 07/13/01 Juniper new router seen ahead of Cisco's (JNPR, CSCO) By Emily Church Robertson Stephens is upgrading shares of Juniper Networks (JNPR) to a strong buy, telling clients in an overnight note that they believe a Juniper product code-named Gibson will have "four times the routing capacity of the M160 with OC-768 ready slots and backplane." Analyst Paul Johnson says, "we don't believe Cisco (CSCO) is anywhere near Juniper's development timeframe when it comes to an OC-768 ready router." Juniper late Thursday reported second quarter results that were in-line with its preannounced reduced range. Earnings were 9 cents per share and revenue was $202 million. Not all analysts are convinced the telecoms are set to resume spending on new technology. Morgan Stanley analysts tell clients overnight: "We believe that the many carriers are done spending on their backbones for the next several quarters."
