Maui dude -

<<"Furthermore, we have been hearing that the company [AMD] pulled in at least one record order just before the quarter close to help make its quarter. Quarter end deals almost always are negotiated at a substantial discount. While these sharp price cuts have definitely boosted processor volumes, it appears that this has come at the cost of significantly lowered gross margins."

It implies that AMD did whatever it could to claim that they grew the market share. Imagine a earnings report/forecast like they gave today and a loss of market share - would have been devastating for the stock price.>>

Nice piece of digging by you and I think the conclusion is right - if both had been bad, tomorrow would be nasty. I wonder if this channel stuffing at a price discount is true, could it have contributed to Jerry's answer to a direct q about continuing downward ASP pressure in Q3 being essentially a straightforward "yes", in addition to the more obvious 'formal' price war being engaged in. BTW, anyone know if the story that appeared recently on the thread about price cuts on this coming Monday are true? I seem to vaguely remember that it was also mentioned in the story that the 1ghz Duron would also be introduced this Monday, which is obviously not true from the info given in the CC.
